HMCS Bayfield
The Bangor class minesweeper HMCS Bayfield was built at Vancouver, British Columbia for the Royal Navy, but transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy for manning before commissioning on February 26, 1942.
St. Mary the Virgin
In the early 1800’s in Little River (later Bayfield), there was a growing Anglican community and soon, under the leadership of T.H. White and Mrs Luman.

Oldest House in Bayfield
This house is vernacular in style being a one and one half story graced with two offset formers and asymmetrical facade with enclosed front entranceway.
Bayfield School House
The first school in Little River opened between 1815 – 1817. It was a log school house near the present school.
Little River Pier Company
A Public Meeting of the inhabitants of the County of Sydney will be held at the store of Christopher McDonald, Esq. Pomket Forks, on Saturday the 2nd of July next at 10 o’clock.
Pomquet Island Lighthouse
The first Pomquest Island Lighthouse was built in 1868 and consisted of a square tower 23 feet tall. In 1910 a combined lighthouse and dwelling was established.
Bayfield General History
Originally called Little River, the name was changed to Bayfield in 1864 in honor of Henry W. Bayfield, an English naval officer who surveyed and charted coastal locations in Nova Scotia.
